New Year Prayer for Compassion

DSC06632-300x200Although I’m trying to pretend I have no idea how it happened, the year 2019 came upon us.

Happy New Year Everybody!

All the changes and shifts in the air, all the mystery of the beginning of the year, the first month, the winter change brought some thoughtfulness and promises of improvement. As it happens the turn of the year encourages new resolutions and brings on us thoughts of our todays and tomorrows. I don’t like to make New Year Resolutions, because usually by the end of January they are already forsaken and forgotten. I wasn’t planning on making any this year. But then I came across this Prayer for Compassion and for a moment I felt like I was connected and I could understand and relate to every single soul in the Universe. Then life took its toll and I forgot all about it, until yesterday.  During a car journey I listened to some music and suddenly I was stricken by one of the lyrics (Today everyone is a Galaxy). These words penetrated my mind and soul. I thought how far we are from one another and how foreign we are for each other. The community spirit seams to cease to exist.  Today one is for one and one only. Is understanding and accepting the ‘Other’ really such a difficult art? Should we try to master it? I certainly should. And then suddenly I remembered the Prayer and it all made sense once again. I am not making any other resolution but remember it and say it to myself every single time when the compassion towards the other is challenged. And it doesn’t matter if it will happen in the queue, on the train or at work. If it will be a slight annoyance from a friend or an offence from a stranger – whenever my compassion is challenged I will repeat these simple words and I will feel them in my heart. Please take my advice and do the same, and maybe, just maybe, this year will bring us closer, will make us better and then The Other will  become the tamed version of I.

THE PRAYER FOR COMPASSION

JUST LIKE ME, YOU ARE SEEKING SOME HAPPINESS IN YOUR LIFE.

JUST LIKE ME, YOU ARE TRYING TO AVOID SUFFERING IN YOUR LIFE.

JUST LIKE ME, YOU HAVE KNOWN SADNESS.

JUST LIKE ME, YOU WANT TO BE LOVED.

JUST LIKE ME, YOU WERE ONCE AN INNOCENT CHILD.

JUST LIKE ME, YOU ARE A SPIRIT ON A JOURNEY.
